How to adopt...
We are so pleased you are considering giving a good home to a rescued animal. The UK is on the brink of a rabbit welfare disaster. Up and down the country right now there are MORE THAN 33,000 RABBITS IN RESCUE CENTRES like ours waiting for homes. By choosing to come to a rescue and not to a pet shop or breeder (those at the root of the 33,000 figure) you are becoming part of the solution. THANKYOU.
We work with the Rabbit Welfare Association and several other animal welfare organisations to ensure the advice you are given prior to adoption is the most up to date available. You can be assured that Green Fields Rescue will support you before, during AND LONG AFTER the adoption of your rabbits.
AS THE NEWS ARTICLE ON OUR HOME PAGE EXPLAINS, GREEN FIELDS RESCUE IS CURRENTLY REDUCING ITS RESCUES CAPACITY AND WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY LISTING THE RABBITS WE HAVE FOR ADOPTION ON THIS WEBSITE. IF YOU THINK YOU MAY BE ABLE TO OFFER A PAIR OF BUNNIES A GOOD HOME, OR YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A FRIEND FOR YOUR EXISTING BUNNY, THEN PLEASE CONTACT ONE OF THE REPUTABLE RESCUE CENTRES LISTED ON THE LINKS PAGE OF OUR WEBSITE. Although they are not all local to here, we can often assist with transporting bunnies and home checking on their behalf.
FIVE STEPS TO ADOPTING FROM A RESCUE:
1) Do your research. Read this website thoroughly and make sure you find out exactly what rabbit ownership involves. The chances are its much more in both time and money than you thought!
2)Choose your rescue carefully. Make sure you will be getting the RIGHT advice. Only adopt from a rescue who neuters, spays and vaccinates all their rabbits prior to adoption and will only rehome rabbits to live in bonded pairs.
3)Read all about rabbit care from the Rabbit Welfare Association Website at www.rabbitwelfare.co.uk
4)Dont go out and buy any equiptment until you have been to the rescue and chosen your bunnies. Not every rabbit is the same and you should buy or make accommodation which suits the individual bunnies not try and find rabbits which fit what you already have!
5) Go to the rescue with an open mind. You may think you know what you want but dont choose bunnies based just on breed or size. Personality and compatible lifestyle is very important when selecting your bunnies.
