Mr Bensons Easter Poem - 07/03/2005

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time I was a happy bun
I had lots of space to stretch and run
In the summer I stayed out in the sun all day
And in the winter I had a nice warm cage

After a little while the children got bored with me
They couldn’t be bothered to clean me out you see
Mum got lumbered with the boring task
She said it was a good thing that wouldn’t last

I used to be able to go out on the grass and play
I used to have fresh green veggies and lots of hay
I used to get lots of love, snuggles and praise
Now I just sit in my cage most days

I’ve developed a problem where I can’t move properly
And my eyelashes stick in instead of out - I can’t see
My owners say it’s gonna cost a lot of money
They haven’t got that kind of cash to spend on a bunny

One night quite late they took me out in the car
It seemed to me we really travelled away quite far
They let me go in a place I didn’t know
I walked around trying to find somewhere to go

A nice person found me and took me to the vet
They said I must have been an unwanted pet
Next Easter I hope they stick to buying Easter Eggs
Instead of a rabbit who could end up dead…

Dedicated to Mr Benson – what a lovely old man he was.
