Organisational changes & scheduled closed dates - 19/08/2007
Green Fields Rescue has grown in capacity and organisational size very quickly over the past few years and has now reached a stage where its important to pause and look at our plans for the future. This includes the introduction of several new voluntary roles that will be advertised in the "news" section over the coming weeks. Check the other news articles for details. Maybe you will find something you can do to assist the rescue to run more smoothly!
However, while we look at whats needed future-proof our organisation, we will not be able to deal with the usual volume of enquiries.
Maybe you will find the answer to your enquiry here:
I WOULD LIKE TO BOOK HOLIDAY BOARDING:
The rescue is now fully booked for boarding for the rest of 2007 and New Year 2008. If you wish to book for 2008, these dates will be added shortly to the online availability checker. You can view this by clicking on the holiday boarding page. Please note that "hutches" will always show as available as these are for guinea pigs and Green Fields Rescue no longer offers boarding for guinea pigs.
There are 2 other reputable guinea pig boarders you may wish to contact instead. They are:
Guinea Pig Holidays in Sandhurst. Email linda@guineapigholidays.co.uk
Cavy Crazy in Farnborough. Email cavy.crazy@ntlworld.com
If you are looking for alternative rabbit boarding, there are 2 other reptuable boarders locally. They are:
www.thelittlewarrens.com
www.doedropinn.co.uk
I WOULD LIKE TO ADOPT FROM THE RESCUE:
Thats great!! Did you know there are over 33,000 rabbits in rescues up and down the UK? With so many rabbits desperate for good homes, you have done the right thing by choosing to look at rehoming from a reputable rescue like ours! We have so many bunnies in need of homes! You might like to take time to look at our website and the information pages on the Rabbit Welfare Association website so you are sure that rabbits really are for you before you contact us. If you are still keen to proceed and you would like an appointment, please contact our rehoming co-ordinator, Gemma on appointments@greenfieldsrescue.co.uk
If you have already had an appointment at the rescue or already have an adoption in progress, your adoption is unaffected by the organisational changes. If you have an enquiry about an adoption already in progress, please contact our rehoming co-ordinator, Gemma on appointments@greenfieldsrescue.co.uk
I WANT TO BRING AN UNWANTED RABBIT TO YOU:
We're sorry but we cannot admit ANY rabbits to the rescue at present and that includes strays and emergency admissions.
If you are planning to admit your rabbit/s to a rescue centre, please contact The Rabbit Welfare Association on 0870 046 5249 to find another reputable rescue centre. You can also see www.rabbitrehome.org.uk
YOU MUST NOT DUMP UNWANTED RABBITS OUTSIDE THE RESCUE.
Apart from the fact that we cannot currently accomodate them, the area is rife with urban foxes who will easily sniff them out and kill them if we do not find them right away.
I HAVE FOUND A STRAY RABBIT:
If you have found an injured/stray domestic rabbit, please take it to any local veterinary centre. Rabbits are held for 7 days to allow owners to find them before being found an appropriate placement via the RSPCA or local rescue centres. You will not be charged any money by the vets for handing in an injured/stray rabbit.
However, if you find a stray, PLEASE feed it only hay and give a bowl of fresh water. Feeding vegetables, fresh grass or a commercial food they are not used to can cause fatal gut disturbances in rabbits. Likewise, NOT eating anything at all will have the same effect, so if you cannot get hold of any hay, a few handfuls of dry grass will tide them over until you can hand them in at the vets.
WILD RABBITS:
If you are able to approach and pick up an adult wild rabbit it is likely to be extremely poorly or dying. Take it to a vet immediately. You will not be charged any money by the vets for handing it in and it can either be humanely euthanised or found an appropriate rehabilitation placement at a wildlife hospital. Do NOT pick up baby wild rabbits if they appear healthy. Their mothers are likely to be nearby and they have simply not yet developed enough of a fear instinct to run away from you. If its exposed, pop the baby into nearby bushes or undergrowth.
I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT MY RABBITS BEHAVIOUR OR HEALTH:
Contact the Rabbit Welfare Association on 0870 046 5249 for advice. Or, if you are concerned about your rabbits health, contact one of the rescues recommended vets:
Ivan or Ruth at Kynoch Vets in Harmanswater on 01344 421200
