Volunteer Accounts Co-ordinator Wanted for Rabbit Rescue Centre

Green Fields Rescue is an independent rescue centre for domestic rabbits in Bracknell, Berkshire, housing up to 100 rabbits both on site and at off site foster homes. We aim to reduce the numbers of rabbits that end up in rescues around the UK each year (currently around 35,000) within the framework of our 4 aims: “Rescue, Rehabilitate, Rehome, Re-educate”. We are recognised by several major animal welfare organisations and veterinarians for the exceptionally high standard of our work. In 2007/8 Green Fields Rescue will be submitting an application to become a registered charity and plans to assist the RSPCA in driving forward plans for greater regulation of rescue centres standards under the new Animal Welfare Act.

We are seeking a volunteer accounts co-ordinator for the following role:
• Recording of all routine accounting transactions
• Preparing and co-ordinating the rescues initial submission to the charity commission
• Thereafter, preparation of accounts for annual audit by the charity commission
• Assisting with banking, budgeting and projections
• Responsibility for accounts payable and receivable
• Negotiating and setting up of discounts with our suppliers
• Reviewing current bank account and online account (paypal etc) packages

The ideal applicant will:
• Have experience in accounting for a small business/charity (essential)
• Be computer literate, with access to the internet/email (essential)
• Be trustworthy and able to provide excellent personal references (essential)
• Be able to work as part of a small, friendly team (essential)
• Be able to manage and plan their own work load (essential)
• Have an enthusiasm for rabbit welfare/rescue ethics (desirable)
• Be close enough to visit the rescue for meetings occasionally (desirable)

This position reports to: Lorna Field, Rescue Director

The role is voluntary and unpaid. However, discounts will be offered on rates for holiday boarding of the applicants rabbits (if the applicant is a rabbit owner!). Hours are entirely flexible and can be set by the applicant, working from home/in their spare time. This is a new role and it is therefore not yet clear exactly how many hours of input will be required. Initially, extra time will be required to assist in the introduction of new policies and procedures. However, we would anticipate that once tasks are established as routine, the role will take just a couple of hours per week.
